Thank you for your interest in being a Dotcon volunteer for our first convention on November 15 and 16th, 2008. Your participation will help make Dotcon a huge success!

As a volunteer you will be given specific tasks by the Volunteer Supervisors and Dotcon staff. No job is too big or too small as everything a volunteer is asked to do is important to the running of a successful convention.

Still interested? Please see below for an outline of what being a volunteer at Dotcon means and thanks again for being willing to help out.

Basics

In order to be a Dotcon volunteer you must be:
  • At least 16 years of age or older at the time of the convention.
  • Be registered to attend the convention prior to the convention start.
  • Attend a mandatory meeting a few weeks before the convention. (date and time to be announced)
  • At the mandatory meeting be prepared to show your ID and confirmation of registration. Or be prepared to purchase a convention pass at that time.
  • As a volunteer you will receive a badge to wear. Costumes are permitted as long as your volunteer badge is clearly displayed and the costume does not stop you from doing your duties.
  • Please ensure that when you are NOT on volunteer duty at the convention, you REMOVE your volunteer badge and/or volunteer shirt, in order to avoid confusion as to whether you are on duty or simply attending the convention events.
  • The deadline for volunteer sign-ups is October 1st, 2008 October, 31st, 2008 (Pre-Registration deadline).

Job Description

Volunteer jobs will be available throughout the duration of the convention. Jobs will include gophering, monitoring equipment, line control, stuffing convention bags or other small tasks not listed here and that will be required as necessary. Jobs will be assigned by Volunteer coordinator staff.

Unfortunately we cannot guarantee that as a volunteer you will be able to work at a specific event; however, we will try our best to get volunteers to work at different events at the convention time permitting.

As a volunteer a few points you need to remember are:
  • You will be the face of Dotcon and one of the points of contact for all convention attendees as well as the general public. As a representative of Dotcon you will be expected to act in an appropriate and professional manner at all times.
  • Any information you receive during your duties as a volunteer regarding the convention should be kept strictly confidential.
  • You are not permitted to make statements to the public or media on behalf of Dotcon without the express consent of the Dotcon executive staff.

There will be a Volunteer office in The Cedar Conference room at the convention site. Volunteers will be given a range of times to pick from at the mandatory meeting prior to the convention. Please show up a few minutes before your assigned time in order for you to be signed in and sent to your position for that volunteer shift.

After getting your assignment and signing in please go to the area where you are volunteering. If at anytime you feel that you are unable to do the task assigned to you please let a staffer know so that a Volunteer Supervisor can make alternate arrangements and assign you to a different task if one is available in the same time slot.

When your shift is done please return to the Volunteer Office to sign out. The Volunteer Office will have candy available so make sure you stop by.

Length of Shifts

All volunteer shifts will be two hours each, with a minimum of four hours needed for a bottle of water and a cup noodle! If a volunteer wishes to help out beyond the four hours they are welcome to do so. Once your shift is over volunteers are free to enjoy convention events.
